Tim’s Bio

Tim Black is the founder and president of Irrigation Tech. He graduated from Hilton Central in 1979. He then went to SUNY Delhi to study horticulture followed by SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry for landscape architecture. During the summers between college years, he worked in the industry at Geyssen’s Nursery, Van Putte Gardens and for a small grading and excavation company based in Greece. For the first two years after college he worked full time for the grading and excavation company and began a landscape design/build firm part time. In 1985 his landscape company became full time. The company grew quickly and irrigation soon became a large percentage of the total work being done. In 1988 the decision was made to narrow the focus to irrigation only.

Tim married Caroline, a 1977 Greece Arcadia graduate, in 1987. In 1990 they had their first son, Gavin and in 1992 their second son Alex. Gavin is a gifted pitcher on the Hilton Central School team and received an athletic scholarship to continue playing baseball at the University at Buffalo. At UB he intends to study physical therapy. Alex also plays baseball for Hilton, he is a catcher. He is on the wrestling team, select chorus, men’s chorus and played the lead roll of Troy in the fall musical “High School Musical”. He hasn’t figured out exactly what to study in college yet but it will probably be in the health services area.

Tim and Caroline both enjoy gardening very much. They spend a fair amount of their limited free time in the back yard. Tim is especially into sea kayaking. He has taken kayak trips to Myrtle Beach, SC, Charleston, SC, Tybee Island, GA, St. Petersburg, FL, Anna Maria Island, FL and The Florida Keys. Though he prefers salt water and the ocean swells, most of his kayaking is done on Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes. Tim is a member of the Rochester Rotary.
